In the wonderful world of ABO, people sure like to make assumptions about how any given teen will probably present as. It's just how things are.
Case in point, while they are very, very late bloomers (the only among the third years in fact), everyone knows what best friends Aizawa Shouta and Yamada Hizashi will turn out as. Aizawa, with his useless quirk, occasionally parental ways and fondness for cute cats is 100% Omega. Yamada, owner of one of the most formidable quirks in his year, great intelligence and Big Presence™, can only be an Alpha.
But then Aizawa spends a week being unbearably snippy and aggressive in that way Alphas gearing up for their first ever rut tend to get, and Yamada shows up to school after a sudden "family emergency" positively reeking of unfulfilled heat pheromones. Oh shit. Guess the stereotypes are FUCKING WRONG AS SHIT.

Shouta finds himself dealing with two major reactions: people that still think he's not gonna make it very far with his basically useless quirk, and assholes that suddenly think he's up for the task of being a hero now (what, so I pop a knot and suddenly I'm fucking qualified?!) He definitely hates the second group more because excuse you being an Alpha doesn't somehow mean that he's suddenly better than before. Also, Shouta is not about to completely overhaul his fucking anything to align more properly with the stereotypes and expectations of an Alpha.

Hizashi meanwhile is suddenly being bombarded with that good old "oh what a shame that such a powerful quirk went to a non combatant, at least he'll probably have a bunch of kids with the quirk" Omegan expectations. There's even some especially old fashioned fuckers that want him to be pulled from the hero course because "you can't let an Omega fight against Betas and Alphas!!". Then there's the sudden spike of knotheads wanting to "date" him because every Omega is just waiting for the first Alpha to sweep them off their feet (incidentally, Aizawa sure gets growly a whole lot more and has taken to aggressively scenting Yamada, who's oddly ok with that. The "they're dating" rumors pick up again).

And of course the cherry on top: how all these developments affect the long term mutual pining impasse that these two have been stuck in for years. Between all that, the fact that they refuse to let their shiny new second genders affect their routine and meetings to hang and spar, and heats and ruts that are in that unpredictable stage, something is bound to give.

Note:
If you're up for smut please no pregnancy. Hizashi is not about that stereotypical "got pregnant as soon as humanly possible" life, he's gonna be a hero and a radio host and societal expectations aren't about to make him bend. Shouta is very ok with this cuz whatever his hormone drunk brain might say, he too ain't about that teen parents thing.
