The old suggestion thread has been cleaned up of old comments that aren't relevant anymore so only the important conversations we've had are left. Please feel free to use our new post though!

The pinboard is really hard to keep up and I'm afraid we're going to lose it due to it costing money. So instead I've set up a form that you can fill out when you make a fill and it will put them into a spreadsheet! This way its organized, searchable, and everyone can help maintain it rather than mods having to archive all on their own (or just me XP). Still make a fill post for now, but give the form a try too? You can let me know what you think on the mods page <3 (this is only for fills right now, but if it goes well i want to do this for prompts as well) Feel free to add past fills you've made as well!

Does anyone off-hand know how many mods there are for this meme and/or has anyone tried to contact them about some of the suggestions here?

Reason I ask is that it seems like there's a lot of people in this thread willing to help out with running the meme/implementing a fill-a-thon (Original fill-a-thon suggester, here)/creating a prompt archive to lessen repetitive prompts but not a lot has been done to get the ball rolling on anything. If there's only one or two mods who haven't been that active, it's no wonder some things have gotten out of hand. If we could get a team together (which again it seems like a lot of us want to pitch in!) that way we could have a smooth-running meme without putting too much of the onus on a few people to say, create new parts or fill events, delete wayward posts or manage an archive.

Kinkmemes are huge projects, and are wonderful if managed well, but it's way too much for a small handful of people to take on. Guess what I'm asking is if anyone who's previously mentioned wanting to help is willing to get a group together to contact the mods and see if we can divvy up some tasks?

Me personally, I'd be willing to help start up a fill-a-thon month, contribute to a tumblr or googledoc prompt/fill archive and if the mods need more eyeballs on the account, I peruse this meme constantly and totally would not mind cleaning up wayward posts and reminding posters to adhere to posting rules.

Also! Slightly related but unrelated to helping out the mods; something else a team of organizers could do is start a KINKMEME AWARDS event that I've seen on other memes: users suggest fics in a separate thread to be put up to a vote for best in categories (i.e. m/m, m/f, f/f, gen, specific pairings, etc). Once voting is done, a separate post is made for the winners and everyone rejoices!

Something like this could help rejuvenate the meme community, give writers a little pat on the back/encouragement to keep writing and generally be a lot of fun. These are also usually congruent with fill-a-thons or happen shortly after, so it'd be apropo timing I suppose.

I'm the original keep-an-archive-instead-of-segregating-kinks suggester. I still have experience keeping archives for kink memes in the past and am still willing to help out for this one. You seem to have a lot of good ideas to keep the meme alive, and I'm sure the mods would appreciate the help. That's great and all, but can you come off of anon as a mod so we know for sure when mods are active here? If you guys have also been posting on anon then we really have no idea if you're active or not, or if someone is just pretending to be a mod. Also you know it makes it feel like you haven't been here for months seeing as the last thing visibily done by mods was in like January =/

Well, if you decide you'd like an extra set of hands to help you get through the next 2/3rds faster just let me know! Additionally, I will second what the other anon is saying. I would be nice to have some official, off-anon bnhamod interaction with this little sub-community we've created. If things are actually being done as you say they are, it would ease any tension if it's officially announced by someone in charge.

I apologize for the lack of mod involvement. There's only three mods, and the first two of us both work full time jobs and don't have much downtime to run the meme, and the other mod is working pretty much exclusively on the archive. We are accepting applications for new mods, if anyone is willing to help out.

That aside, and related to the fill-a-thon, I'm still planning on setting one up. I'd wanted to start it around 7k comments, but the speed of comments has slowed down and I think that's not quite as viable. When the fill-a-thon is done I'll start a Part Two and close Part One for new prompts. My main concerns are how long it should be, in regards to users getting upset about the blocking of new prompts, and general discontent with the lack of fills and burnout among writers. Right now I can't imagine that many meme users would listen to a block for new prompts, since the rules are already being ignored. :/ The only solution I can think of to comments that don't follow the rules would be to delete the offending prompts/fills, which I don't mind for prompts but worry about for fills.

Other miscellaneous information: as our archive mod stated, there is an archive in creation. It's about 1/3rd way done. Additions to rules including clauses about self-promotion and repeat prompts are in the works. I want to get user input before instating changes, but deletion of similar prompts is being considered (since the archive will help us keep track of it), and I'd prefer that people don't use the meme to promote their off-meme accounts, but I think that's something to be decided by the users rather than the mods. Again, I apologize for the mods not quite meeting the standards other memes have set. Thank you for sticking around anyways and adding your input. I hate to say it but people have gotten so far off the rules because they weren't properly enforced from the start and that's why now its so hard to start enforcing them. However you can start hardcore enforcement with the start of the next part because its essentially a clean slate. I think for enforcement of fills just give a warning that it is going to be deleted and let them repost it properly before you delete (unless no response is given within the time frame stated). I think we should encourage posting fills on Ao3 though for the reason that Ao3 has a proper tagging system and warning system that takes care of following the rules here. I understand not everyone wants to use it and thats fine but for people who are willing that helps with enforcing rules right there and also helps with organization of fills and archiving because they are easy to find on Ao3. Yes that can fall into the self promotion thing but I think the pros outweigh the cons of that here.

As for the fill a thon I think 7k is really high for that. Considering we already feel overwhelmed at the number were already at I think it should have been done long before we got to this many pages. Probably around page 40 or so I think would have been good.

Also I'm sorry but you can't have this attitude of not wanting to make people upset. To be a mod you have to put your foot down and make people deal with it. That's their problem if they get upset, not yours. Other wise a fill a thon wont happen/ run well, and on the next part things will just end up going back to how they are now with the lack of rule following. Please put your foot down and stop being afraid of making people upset. This is your kink meme- run it your way. You will be surprised how many people will thank you for it and stand behind you. (This will also address the burnout and overwhelming by actually enforcing some of these rules.)

I would have liked to have seen you guys actually ask for help when it was clear you needed it. There's no shame in that and we have so many people here who were willing to step up. It really makes me sad that we had to say something about stepping up and helping out vs it coming from you guys. 3 people who do have time on their hands would have trouble modding a kink meme of this size much less 3 people with not much time like you guys stated. I don't mean to be discouraging and I know I sound harsh in this message and I still want you to try and keep this thing going, but I still think this needs to be said.

Hi, anon, sorry for the delayed response!

You bring up a lot of good points, so with the start of Part 2 we'll try our best to be more stringent with those who aren't following the rules. Like Mod #1 mentioned earlier, irl obligations got in the way for both of us, but we also didn't expect the meme to blow up on the caliber that it did (not saying that's a bad thing, of course!); now that we know what kind of interest the meme has, hopefully Part 2 will be nowhere near as messy as Part 1, as far as meme etiquette goes.

Don't worry about it. I understand. As much as I actually would love to help out, I also work a full time job, go to school, and struggle to just find time to even do fills these days as I would like. However this won't stop me from being vocal as I have been. Thanks for really listening by the way. Its appreciated. I'm sure part 2 will be much better .
